H&M, a Swedish fashion chain is well known for their affordable and stylish clothing and accessories for men, women and children. In Calgary we have a three H&M stores, one in Sunridge mall in the NE, The Core in down town and Market mall in the NW.
Why should you boycott H&M? Allow us to share a few reasons.
By establishing chain stores in Israel, H&M is investing in the economy of a state that recklessly violates human rights, has been committing war crimes consistently in the name of self defense and continues its systematic ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people to say the least.
In 2010 H&M opened a store in Malha, a village in Jerusalem that was ethnically cleansed during the Nakba, the day of catastrophe,the1948 Palestinian exodus. About 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled out of fear from their homeland and thus the creation of the Israeli state in 1948. Palestinians who were illegally evicted from their homes in Jerusalem by the Israeli state were replaced with Jewish colonial settlers. Government funded housing units are built for the settlers while the Palestinians live as refugees in camps, completely displaced till this day without the right to return.
While Palestinians lose their lives, homes, health and basic rights to live and earn a living, H&M established three other stores in 2010, in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Kfar Saba and another two stores in 2011 in Petah Tikva and Netanya.
Be an ethical consumer! Don’t buy into apartheid! Stand in solidarity with Palestine & humanity! Listen to your conscience! Boycott H&M!
